About Helen

Helen was born in Chester. She is the daughter of two factory workers and was the first in her family to go to University. She worked at different jobs to help pay her way, took a degree in English and then trained as a teacher. She has a Masters Degree in Education and later qualified as a solicitor. She has lived in the constituency, with her family, since she was first elected to represent Warrington North.

Helen Jones says:

"Now that the Tories have called a General Election, I wanted to let you know that I will be standing again in Warrington North. I hope you will give me your support.

"It’s been a privilege to represent this constituency and I’ve been delighted to meet many of you.

"Each week, I’m out knocking on doors, listening to local people and taking up their concerns. I believe MPs need to be in touch with the people they represent, not just at election time, but all year round.

"You know that I’m not afraid to rattle a few cages or take a bit of flak for standing up for local people. I’ve represented you, not the vested interests in Westminster – or in Warrington.

"Now, more than ever, people need an MP who will stand up for them.

"The Tories in Westminster don’t care about Warrington. They’ve taken £100 million out of our social care budget, leaving sick and elderly people without the care they need. They’ve brought our NHS to breaking point, and taken services away from Warrington Hospital. Now they’re threatening to either downgrade or close our A&E.

"Millions of pounds are being taken from local schools’ funding so that the Tories can spend more in counties like Surrey. They’re spending more on a single London tube line than on every transport project in the North of England combined.

"Theresa May wants you to believe that this election has been called because MPs opposed Brexit. That’s not true. ¾ of MPs voted to trigger Article 50. She wants to make this election about one thing. I respect the result of the referendum but, as we leave the EU, I want to fight for the best deal for Warrington North.

"That’s why we need an MP who will fight for Warrington North’s interests, not someone who will do the Tories’ bidding. Theresa May wants people to ignore the damage that the Tories are doing to our communities. I have always stood up for you, and I promise you that, if I am re-elected, I will always put you first."
